Our first shelling trip of summer 2020 was to Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel Island. We decided to take a day trip to Florida’s west coast for some fresh air and sunshine once the covid19 related restrictions were lifted.  Sanibel Island earned its spot on Travel and Leisure’s top 10 shelling destinations in the United States.

We waited for low tide and did the “Sanibel Stoop” and found a variety of Lace Murex, Conch, Olive, Lightning Whelk, and Cockle shells among the treasure scooped up by our shovels and buckets. Since we were there only for a few hours we didn’t get to visit some of the other wonderful beaches on the island. Next time we visit we plan on shelling at Lighthouse Beach Park, Gulfside City Park, Blind Pass Beach and Tarpon Beach in order to experience the entire island.
